- The pregnant patient
- The hemophilia-A patient
- The Jehovah's Witness patient
- The diabetic patient
- The transplant patient
- The grossly obese patient
- The elderly patient (over 80 years)
- The sickle cell patient
- The AIDS patient
- The patient with Malignant Hyperthermia
Required Text:
There is a course syllabus, which will be used as a study guide for the course. It is also recommended that you have a copy of Cardiopulmonary Bypass, Principles and Practice edited by G.P. Cravlee, R.F. Davis, M. Kurusz and J.R. Utley published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. There are two editions and either will be fine as a reference text.
Each week the student should review the chapter assigned for the week. At the end of each chapter there are two reprints and a list of additional references covering the subject. Review and study the chapter and the two articles, which cover the subject. If interested, selected articles found in the reference list may be obtained from the Internet, hospital or university library for further study.
Classroom Session:
Be prepared to discuss the material studied during the weekly classroom session. During the classroom session the instructor will lead a seminar type discussion on the subject. The classroom session will be highly interactive with active discussion on the assigned subject.
Forum Section:
Each week several discussion questions will be found in the Forum section of the web site. Please review these questions and enter your responses in the Forum section. Your instructor will review your responses and enter comments relative to the questions. You should complete the Forum section assignment prior to the classroom session. This course should give you an opportunity to discuss complicated conditions which you may rarely see in your practice yet should help to prepare you for such an encounter.
Examinations:
At least two examinations will be given during the course.
